On Friday evening 21 September 89 people sat down to enjoy an excellent ploughman’s and home made apple pies for this year’s Harvest Supper, the best attendance for many years. As with previous year’s the theme for the Supper was the celebration of local foods, with most of the ingredients for the Supper coming from suppliers within a few miles of Silsoe. Working under Maggie Jeeves’ guidance a small team procured the food, including local cheeses, ham, tomatoes and specially baked cottage loaf rolls. Table centres along a topical theme were provided by Ann Swain. Ploughman’s platters were then prepared for each of the 12 table hosts to serve to their guests, together with their own home made apple pies. Guests also enjoyed another of Sandy Grants table quizzes, which are an excellent way for everyone on the table to get to know each other and complete vigorously against other tables. This year despite a tie break there was a tie between 2 tables. Overwhelming reaction was that it was a most enjoyable and successful event and thanks to Maggie for her hard work in bringing everything together so well.
