Benefice celebrates confirmation

The candidates following their confirmation with Bishop Richard

On 16 May the Bishop of Bedford the Right Reverend Richard Atkinson conducted a confirmation service at St James for  8 candidates from the Deanery, who were supported by a congregation of over 90 people.  There were 4 candidates from our Benefice; Stewart, Caroline and Max Ashton from Silsoe and Alice Toone from Flitton. Other candidates came from Haynes, Campton and Aspley Guise.

Introducing  his sermon the Bishop, recently returned from a sabbatical, part of which was in Uganda, offered a visual association based on the mango tree in the grounds of the ordinands college. It was the mango season so the tree was providing protection from the sun and offered ripe fruit falling to the ground. It was these two components, protection and bearing fruit that provided the theme for his sermon.

Following the confirmation of candidates the Bishop celebrated communion, during which the 3churches choir, sang three anthems; Look at the World, Clare Benediction and Fairest lord Jesus. Positioned in the gallery the fine singing was heard by the whole Church and received many glowing compliments from both visitors and congregations members alike.

Following the service many stayed behind to speak with the Bishop and candidates and enjoy the fine array of refreshments that had been provided.
